Creating a Family of Salad Labels

Posted by Heather Orr-Martinez

Taylor Farms Salad LabelsWhen you are creating a family of product labels, the challenge is to design something that will allow for product titles that fluctuate in length. It is easy to design something for let's say "Cobb Salad," but more difficult to design something that looks as good when it says "Cobb Salad" as when it says "Oriental Chicken Salad" which is almost three times as long. This was the challenge with Taylor Farms' new line of salads. The goal of the project was to show as much of the salad as possible which meant the smallest label possible. The label still needed to have the brand, the type of salad, a bit of romance copy that described what was in the salad and be readable from a distance.

The final solution was two fold — a label that relies on color as the main means of differentiation and a very simple type treatment. These two elements allow the actual product (the salad) be the star of the package, but still gives the brand good presence on the package and is easy for the consumer to read. Look for them in your local Albertson's and give one a try!
