2009 Ratto Calendar: Oakland Field Greens

Posted by Paul Page

What a fun job I have. I love baseball. I love history. I love fiction. And Page Design has a great client who let us put all of those passions together into one project.

The 2009 Ratto Bros. Farms catalog is a clever mixture of baseball folklore and imagination, cleverly disguised as history. Did you know that in 1919, Antone Ratto, the founder of Ratto Bros. put together a baseball team called the Oakland Field Greens? The Greens were loaded with talent, such as Caesar Romaine, the second baseman; Walter Melon, the catcher; Cab H. Head, the left fielder; Herb Dill, pitcher; and Hardy "Red" Beets, the first baseman. Each of the Green's star players is featured on their own month in a very rich and nostalgic design created by Page Designer, Kurt Kland. You can see some of the player's baseball cards right here, or you can visit www.rattobros.com and read the entire story of the team's legendary 1919 season.
