A Salute to Those Who Make Things

Posted by Paul Page

We’ve all been hearing a lot lately about a “credit crisis” and I have been doing my best to understand the complex inner workings of the global financial system. While I am not an economist, I can’t help but have a gut feeling that, at the heart of the problem, is a “production crisis.” In other words, as Americans, we don’t make enough stuff to support all of the spending we do on other people’s stuff. The result is a horrendous foreign trade deficit that leaves us at the financial mercy of more productive countries.

At Page Design, we make things. We make creative, hard-hitting marketing campaigns for our clients, who also make things. And those clients are the heroes I would like to salute. These hard working entrepreneurs are on the forefront of the global economic battles. We respect their right to a healthy profit and dedicate our work to ensuring their sustainability.

Page Design is proud to be associated with the California Rice Industry, notably through our work with the California Rice Commission, Farmers’ Rice Cooperative, Montna Farms, and American Commodity Company. This industry contributes over $500 million to the California economy every year, and exports millions of dollars of the world’s best short and medium grain rice to countries throughout Asia and Europe. Every bite of sushi consumed in the United States contains rice grown within 100 miles of Page Design headquarters.

Today, Americans consume more than 400 million gallons of olive oil annually. And yet, the United States produces less than a half million gallons of this supply. The rest is imported. California Olive Ranch, a Page Design client, is working to rectify this situation. Using new high-density planting and harvesting technology, California Olive Ranch is changing California’s agricultural landscape. With tens of thousands of acres of olive orchards now maturing, this water-wise, drought tolerant, low-labor crop will soon rival foreign production and offer Americans a fresh and delicious alternative to the stale, tasteless foreign brands. This healthy oil is the fastest growing of all of the cooking oils in American. And Americans are in for a real treat when they taste a fresh, home grown olive oil. Page Design is proud to be associated with this exciting new industry.

We are equally excited to be involved in the marketing of new technology that is revolutionizing the fight against prostate cancer. Eigen, Inc. in Grass Valley has just received FDA approval for a new diagnostic tool that provides urologists with a three-dimensional, real-time prostate image from simple ultrasound scanning. The ability to pinpoint the sources of cancer and to map its growth is a gigantic step forward in the diagnosis and treatment of this vicious disease.

These clients and many others like them are the reason why we get excited about coming to work every day. They are producing real products, creating real jobs and keeping our country’s economy moving. Page Design is both honored and humbled to be working in support of such great companies.
