Kurt (Martini) Kland —

Kurt says that "design found him" rather than finding design. A psychology major in college, he brings a touch of the surreal to his design… if you don't believe us take a look at his personal blog www.52doodles.com, you'll find out why he is called Kurt "Martini" Kland! He has any number of talents including illustration, mad Photoshop skills and website design. On the weekends he can be found hiking and playing with a drumming circle in McKinley Park on Sunday afternoons.

Q) What is your favorite software to use and why?
A) Photoshop. It's like the God of software. As I push those endearing little pixels around, so perfect in their imperfection, I find the bonds of ego and individuation melting away. I am free from the fetters of persona, nothing remains but pure, blissful existence — oneness with the vast scheme of things…

Q) What is your least favorite software to use and why?
A) Anything that isn't Photoshop. There is only one God. The others are all impostors, blasphemes!

Q) Do you play an instrument?
A) All kinds of drums (orchestral percussion, drum set, hand drums) and harmonica.

Q) Tell us about a guilty pleasure you have.
A) I have some Barry Manilow on my ipod.

Q) What is your favorite typeface?
A) Hobo, but the version with little piles of snow on top of the letters

Q) Why did you choose graphic design as a profession?
A) I didn't. It chose me.

Q) What is your favorite holiday?
A) Arbor Day – hug a tree!
